Over the last decade many of us have fallen in love with the fast-casual burrito that has become mainstream thanks to Chipotle and Moe’s Southwest Grill. I mean, who could beat Moe’s Monday where you’ll get a burrito, chips and a drink for just $5!? That is, until you step outside the box of conformity and explore the many “mom and pop” shops that have also jumped on the burrito bandwagon; and are doing it so much better!

Just a few months ago I fell in love with The Burrito Factory right here in Charlotte on South Blvd. At first I wasn’t sure that this hole-in-the-wall looking place was going to do the trick but boy was I wrong.

From the moment you walk in you’ll be greeted by an awesome staff that always seems to be on the top of their game when it comes to making great suggestions from their menu. Better yet, there is almost always a great deal to be had including chicken or steak burritos for $4.99 or, on Thursdays, when EVERYTHING on the menu is just $5.49. This is an awesome deal considering one of your options is a considerably loaded chipotle shrimp burrito…delicious!

Every person I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with from the staff is incredibly friendly and is always there to make great suggestions. The last time I was there they had just finished cooking up some chipotle chicken so that was their first burrito suggestion; it definitely didn’t disappoint.

As with any burrito place you’re familiar with, the front counter is where you’ll select all of the ingredients for inside your burrito. What’s special about The Burrito Factory is the variety of items that you can include and more importantly, how fresh everything is. Some things that come to mind are pickled red onions, three different types of lettuce (shredded, romaine and mixed greens), a bunch of awesome sauces, olives, at least a couple different types of cheeses, freshly chopped jalapeños and cilantro. These are just some of the highlights! I’ve also been really happy with the way they take the wrapped burrito back to the grill press to heat it up a bit to ensure everything is nice and hot when you get it.

So the next time you find yourself craving a burrito, make sure to check out The Burrito Factory on South Blvd. It’s only four miles past the Chipotle on South Blvd. and located right near the Archdale Light Rail station. Plus, it’s a whole lot better than many of your other options in town.
